Manufacturer-Info BRIO is a wooden toy company founded in Sweden. Founder “Ivar Bengtsson†was a basket maker who started to make toys in Osby, southern Sweden. In 1908 Ivar's three sons took over and founded BRIO, which is an acronym for “Bröderna ("brothers") Ivarsson Osbyâ€. They are best known for their wooden toy trains, sold in Europe since 1958. Today the toys are still made of wood and designed in Osby, the village where it all began. But during the Fifties and Sixties they also used plastic and Bakelite for a few toys. Model-InfoIn 1952 Brio probably made the first toy-models of a Saab in two different sizes (1:43 and 1:16). These big-sized 92 are made of plastic and Bakelite, but have wooden and rubber tires. Two versions were available: With or without spring-mechanism. Special / Limited EditionThis yellow 92 is the very first model and it was made in 1951 for Toy-Fair-exhibition only! |
